Margaret Ross Tolbert considers her art to be a kind of “Expressive Realism” and believes her message has been received “when my paintings inspire a connection rather than a recognition.”
Tolbert describes her paintings as “painterly and ostensibly abstract, but simultaneously reflecting a reality of the place.” In the case of her Florida springs paintings, Tolbert understands how some might not recognize them at first. “I used to look at things as ‘a scene’ until I learned to really enter a place and try to discern all of its energy.”
